[Source] The Rendezvous Buoy was a holographic projection generated by a starship's flight computer as a visual reference marker for the pilot. The Rendezvous Buoy served a variety of functions, and was considered a general purpose navigation aid. Its most common use was, as the name suggests, to mark out rendezvous points for a number of different vessels.
