Hitomi was once a pet dog, but her master treated her very badly before she was thrown away. She lived in the mountains, avoiding humans. One day, she met Joe in one of his hunts, and the two fell in love. Joe continuously suggested Hitomi to come live with him because his master was a very kind human, but her past experiences made her reject this offer. On the day she gave birth to four pups, she was attacked and was killed by the hybrid grizzly bear. Only one of the newly born pups survived the bear attack, and was named Kōshirō.
