A football-playing letterman from Marshall College was present at Arnie's Diner in 1957 when Mutt Williams sucker punched "Joe College". The act was a catalyst for a fight which pulled in many of the diner's patrons. When the lettermen and the greasers confronted each other, this letterman stood in the first row. Mutt Williams took a glass jug from the counter and smashed it on the letterman's head which started a fight between lettermen and greasers.
