It was originally known as the Cross of Military Valor, but was renamed in 1543 PD in honor of Senior Chief Petty Officer Lorelei Osterman, who died in the battle against the Volsung Mercenaries. (MA2) This award always came with the offer of a commission – which was frequently turned down by recipients. (SI1, HHA6.3: BATB) Its ribbon was dark blue. (Companion)
