A catchbasin is a large underground facility for the storage of the water reclaimed by windtraps. Here the water can be stored, effectively indefinitely with little loss, until used by the tribe for survival or terraforming purposes. Water reclaimed from the deathstills is also incorporated into the catchbasin.
