Shōjiru Hazure (失敗に起因する, Japanese for "to result from failure") is a dangerously powerful, as well as the eldest of the shinigami, his abilities eventually allowing him to take up the rank of Soul King - the lynchpin of the afterlife. During the early stages of the prestigious position, Shōjiru quickly learned that he held little power to help his followers. Upon request of his shinigami kin, the Soul King created a stone of kikai from said shinigami's souls, subsequently killing them. After gaining possession of the immensely powerful - as well as accursed - stone, Shōjiru accessed some of its power to give birth to new children.
