Jan Vyland was a Manticoran citizen and a non-commissioned officer of the Royal Manticoran Navy. Holding the rank of Petty Officer First Class in 1533 PD, she served as a gravitics specialist aboard the destroyer HMS Guardian. She was considered a "cold fish" by a sizeable percentage of the crew. (MA1)
