Mr Butterworth was an irate farmer who threatened David Barlow and Stan Ogden with a gun after they spent the night in one of his barns. They had got lost while looking for their caravan while out holidaying with their wives Hilda Ogden and Irma Barlow. Butterworth gave them directions back to the caravan but the territorial man warned them that the land all belonged to him, and that his gun wasn't for fancy. His threat only seemed to go as far as contacting his solicitor but David and Stan still ran off after they finished speaking to him.
