Century Day was a celebration conducted in the United Federation of Planets. On Stardate 1/0101.01, the celebrations at Luna and other colonies throughout colonized space were interrupted by news of the destruction of 5 Federation heavy cruisers by an unknown enemy. A single destroyer from the fleet had survived and managed to report the vessels had the shape of a giant, winged creature and it was later discovered to be ships belonging to the Romulan Star Empire.
