Yams are a kind of vegetable that are eaten for food. They are often prepared on Thanksgiving Day along with turkey. Peter Parker tried to make yams in his house when his Aunt May was in the hospital for a heart attack. He put a pan of them in the oven but got distracted causing them to burn. They began smoking until he pulled them out. It is unknown what Peter did with these but it is doubtful they ate them at dinner since Gwen and George Stacy arrived with their own food.
