Cherniss was the Green Lantern of Sector 0344. While pursuing the Raiders of Kramtoo, Cherniss' ring abruptly ran out of energy, due to the Central Power Battery being drained of energy by Maaldor. Powerless, he plummeted to his death. Cherniss was memorialized in the Crypts of Oa, but was raised as a member of the Black Lantern Corps during the Blackest Night.
