Annabel was a Mark Brittain Warehouse checking room worker in 1972. Annabel worked under Elsie Howard, alongside Ivy Tilsley, Edna Gee, Mary and Flo. Annabel, Mary and Flo were at the bottom of the pecking order in the checking room, and spent most of their time reacting to Ivy and Edna's latest dramas. Gormless and overly sensitive, Annabel was younger than her colleagues and less experienced both in the workplace and in the world. When she opined that Ivy still loved her husband Jack Tilsley despite having left him, Flo chided her as she'd never had a boyfriend, although Annabel claimed that she knew what love was. Annabel found her workmates' cynical outlook upsetting and asked if they could go back to work as it wasn't fair on Elsie.
