Topcraft (トップクラフト, Toppu kurafuto) was a Japanese anime studio established in 1972 by former Toei Animation producer Toru Hara. As well as making their own movies, the most famous of which, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, it also worked as a support studio for other animators, most notably, helping Studio Nue animate the The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? movie. The studio went bankrupt and dissolved in late 1985, allowing Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata to buy the studio and change its name to Studio Ghibli. Many Topcraft animators latter joined Ghibli or went to work for other anime studios. Today, Studio Ghibli, like Topcraft also provide support, in-between and background animation for other animation studios as well as making their own signature movies.
