Gillian Barker was a solicitor that Peter Barlow consulted in April 2003 under the assumed name of "Mr Fletcher" to find out how quickly he could end his marriage to Lucy Richards in order that she could marry Shelley Unwin. He was told that proceedings couldn't commence until one year after the marriage (Peter had married Lucy the previous month but she had thrown him out after a couple of days when she found out he was still seeing Shelley) and even then it would take some six months to complete. There were also no grounds for an annulment. After receiving this news, Peter bigamously married Shelley without her knowledge.
