Laser-induced fusion was nuclear fusion initiated by lasers. The lasers were located in the carbon reaction chamber of a fusion reactor. Reactors of this type, which were used for power generation, were aboard the space station Deep Space 9. In 2369, Chief of Operations Miles O'Brien asked his apprentice engineer Anara what she knew about carbon reaction chambers. She stated that her knowledge did not extend much beyond the basics of laser-induced fusion. O'Brien described the system as inefficient, preferring the Federation model. (DS9: "The Forsaken")
