Ben niddah (for a man; bat niddah for a woman; plural b'nai niddah) is a Hebrew term used primarily in Orthodox Judaism to refer to a person conceived when their mother was in a state of ritual impurity, when sexual intercourse is forbidden by halacha. The Talmud states in general that a ben niddah may be rebellious, sinful, or have other character weaknesses. Some recent authorities have stated that secular Jews who have become religious (baalei teshuva) have shown themselves to be the exception; or have shown that they overcame any bad traits they had.
