Hundreds of UNSC starships at the end of their operational life were taken apart in the facilities to be repurposed for spare parts and materials. The hulls of hundreds of spacecraft lie within the Aszod ship graveyard less than one kilometer from the ship breaking yards. Among them was the UNSC Commonwealth, which was being disassembled in a section of the facility that was under control of Sinoviet Heavy Machinery. During the Fall of Reach on August 30, 2552, the UNSC Pillar of Autumn was drydocked near the ship breaking yards.
