Humble's proximity to a rail junction played a role in Jefferson Pinkard's to build a new prison camp outside the town in 1943. Pinkard was arrested by Major Don Little of the U.S Army at Camp Humble in 1944, when Texas declared itself an independent republic and signed its own peace treaty with the U.S.
