Spathlin controlled much of the river traffic to northern Lamedon, but it suffered nonetheless from isolation, as it lay far from the overland routes across Gondor. The town fell under the jurisdiction of the Prince of Lond Ernil, who more often than not assigned politically troublesome nobles to be it's lord. Thus, the town and the fertile region around it remained underdeveloped, much to the frustration of the King.
