Hurricane Shurow was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season, as well as the costliest hurricane in United States history. Classified as the eighteenth named storm, tenth hurricane and sixth major hurricane of the year, Shurow was a Category 4 storm at his peak intensity. The storm became the largest Atlantic hurricane on record after Igor in 2010 (as measured by diameter, with winds spanning 1,100 miles (1,800 km)). Preliminary estimates assess damage at nearly $75 billion (2013 USD.) At least 38902 people were killed along the path of the storm in nine countries.
