Peter Maurin (Aristode Pierre Maurin; May 9, 1877 - May 15, 1949), co-founder, with Dorothy Day (1897 - 1980), of the Catholic Worker Movement. He founded farming communes, which he preferred to call "agronomic universities". He died of heart failure at Maryfarm in Newburgh, New York. Dressed in a donated suit of clothes, he was buried in a donated grave in St John's Cemetery, Brooklyn. His program of Roundtable discussions, houses of hospitality, and Catholic Worker farms remains central to the Catholic Worker Movement.
