Tom accidentally boarded TARDIS, the time and space machine built by the scientist Dr. Who, having mistaken it for a genuine police box while attempting to foil an armed robbery. He accompanied Dr. Who, his granddaughter Susan and his niece Louise to London in 2150, which had been devastated in the Dalek invasion of Earth several years earlier. Once there, he assisted in freeing Earth from the Dalek occupation. He was returned to the scene of the crime earlier than he left, therefore allowing him to apprehend the robbers.
