News 12 Rochester is a 24-hour news channel broadcast in Rochester, New York & the Genesee River & Finger Lakes regions. News 12 Rochester can be found on Time Warner Cable Ch. 12. The station debuted on Ch. 5 in 1994 as "WRNC" (Rochester News on Cable). In 1995, the station changed to Ch. 9 & labeled itself as "RNC 9 News". Later, after Time Warner acquired cable franchise rights to the area, it was changed to just "News 12 Rochester" & was changed to Ch. 12. In 2005, some of the station's operations were merged with CNY News 7, a sister station in Syracuse & Capital Region News 6, a sister station in Albany.
