Orthoceras ("straight horn") is a genus of extinct nautiloid cephalopod. This genus is sometimes called Orthoceratites. Note it is sometimes misspelled as Orthocera, Orthocerus or Orthoceros. Orthoceras fossils are common and have a global distribution, occurring in any marine rock, especially limestones.
