Caliban Cove was the location of an Umbrella laboratory in Maine. Around the same time as the first outbreak in the Arklay Mountains, the facility's manager and primary researcher, Nicolas Griffith, infected almost the entire research staff with his own specialized version of the t-virus, turning them all into his own personal slaves. The S.T.A.R.S. Exeter Alpha Team, along with Rebecca Chambers, were dispatched to Caliban Cove after receiving a tip from anti-Umbrella activist Trent sometime before September 1998.
