Growing up in Ryūgakure was tough, everyone teased and picked on him for being a soul hunter. Though picking on him for being a soul hunter was a portion, it was actually because he was very bad at it. Though, his life changed after meeting Sigma Uchiha. When he and Sigma battled, the Outer Path forced itself out. Making a deal with Rei, that he'd make him the best soul hunter there was seeing the potential within him. Taking the deal, Rei has become a elite soul hunter, and seeing as to how he met Sigma, he has called Sigma "Lord Sigma".

After so, Rei found himself meeting Shingi, the Takikage, who recruited Rei into Takigakure. Offering him the lead, to become a jinchūriki of Chōmei. Quickly, when Rei returned to Ryūgakure, he was once shunned again, so he decided, Taki, would be his permanent home. Upon returning to Takigakure, Rei, was to enter training in-order to control the biju. Within just mere weeks, Rei was able to completely control Chōmei, earning all of her trust. Later, Rei was able to freely roam throughout the shinobi world, with no restrictions, allowing him to continue his soul hunting career.
