Though, he died to Optimus, a bunch of Decepticons took his body out to space, and Unicron reformatted him into this form, Galvatron. Unicron wanted Galvy to serve him, and help him destroy the Matrix, the Universe, and his life-long enemy, Primus. When Optimus died at the hands of Galvatron, Jazzimus swore to avenge his former friend, and commander.
