Integralism is the idea of integrating one's religious beliefs into a political organisation, as happened with Catholicism during the Red Scare. Integralism is a term also used to describe an "anti-pluralist" trend of Catholicism; the Catholic Integralism born of mid-19th century Italy was a movement to assert a Catholic underpinning to all social and political action, and to minimize or eliminate any competing ideological actors, such as Marxism or secular humanism.

Catholic Integralism does not support the creation of an autonomous "Catholic" state church, or Erastianism (Gallicanism in a French context), although at the same time it rejects separation of the Catholic Church from the state and favours Catholicism as the proclaimed religion of the state.
