  • The 2559 Independence Talks were a series of diplomatic negotiations between the Insurrectionist groups that had taken over colonies during the Human-Covenant War. Seven groups sent diplomats to the negotiations, which took place on a station above Earth, under heavy United Nations Space Command guard. With their visions of what might happen clouded by Venezia's fate, six of the seven colonies opted to return peacefully into the fold of the UEG. The one colony that did not was Boundary, under the control of the Boundary Republic. The Republic's decision came as a shock, after the peaceful settlements of the other colonies. The decision was actually rooted in calling the UNSC threat a bluff, and while the Republic made preparations for war, it did not fully expect it to come. This choice led to one of the most destructive periods Boundary had ever seen as the two sides clashed.
