The Psiectomy is a surgical procedure developed by Midori Kanter in which the part of a psionist's mind which allows it to perform psionic acts is removed. While this does not make one more resistant to psionics, it does mean one is no longer able to use psionic abilities. Culturally, the Laters hailed the procedure as a way to allow members of psionic races who abused their abilities to be rehabilitated, and more than a few sentient rights groups have accused the procedure of being barbaric and marginalizing racial identities.
