The Instrument of Surrender was the formal document presented by the leaders of the remaining human nations to the Machine Ambassador at the last session of the United Nations in New York. The document formally ended the conflict between the two forces and signed away control of the last human territories to the machines of Zero One. Although the machines did sign the surrender (in barcode, at that), it did not appease them, as they had their machine ambassador self-destruct in a nuclear blast shortly after delivering an ultimatum to the human race:
