College Rock is a Subgenre of Alternative Rock that describes bands whose sounds combines the experimentation of post punk and new wave with a more melodic pop style and underground sensibility. College Rock is more of a term then a genre, a term which describes a sound similar to bands in the 1980s like R.E.M., and others. Since the 1990s, the genre has been dying down, being supplanted by Grunge and Indie Rock.
