The film was created in response to the growing popularity of the 1966 Batman TV series starring Adam West. The film was presumed missing for several years, until 2007 when a brief clip of it was shown in the Behind the Scenes of the Barney Bunch series. Years later, in January 2014, the film was rediscovered, cleaned up to it's original poopy glory and released online for all to see. In 2015, Buttman was selected for preservation by the Drewland Library of Congress for being "Culturally, Historically, or Aesthetically significant".
