  • The 1990 Winter Olympics were hosted in Alta Real, Peru from April 2nd to April 20th, during the spring months in the mountainous city. The majority of events were hosted at five brand-new indoor facilities in downtown Alta Real, while the ski and snowboard events were held at the Las Cordilleras Resort nearby. Despite the lowest snowfall levels in Winter Olympics history, the indoor events were a major success, and both the vastly modernized city and the country of Peru saw a massive revenue boost from the Olympics. The financial success of Alta Real led to the approval of Bogota as the host site of the 2002 Summer Olympics. The 1990 Games in Alta Real were the final Winter Olympiad hosted the same year as the Summer Olympics.
