This EX170 features a basswood body mated to a one-piece maple neck with a traditional neck joint with a metal plate. It has a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. The pickups are Ibanez humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions flanking a single coil. Other components include a synchronized tremolo bridge. The EX120 is a similar model without the middle pickup. The EX160 is a related model with a single-coil pickup in the neck position. This EX170 was replaced for 1992 with a new version with a maple fretboard and several other changes.
