Maceus was the older brother of Demetrius. When he found out that Hercules had killed his brother, he vowed revenge on the hero. Maceus sought out Iolaus, knowing that he would be able to lead him to Hercules. He tortured Iolaus until he lead him to Hercules in Plinth. Maceus was a devout worshipper of Hera. He called upon the goddess for help to release Echidna from her imprisonment so the monster could assist in killing Hercules. Unfortunately, during the battle, Echidna accidentally stabbed Maceus with a sword intended for Hercules.
