Badalle told Rutt that Brayderal had threads in her blood and would kill them if they let her. Brayderal was confirmed to be allied with the 'Quitters', a Forkrul Assail herself, when she thought of possessing the legacy of the Inquisitors beneath her skin. "I am a child of the Quitters. I am here to complete their work." Her father had warned her about the other, human, children. Her father was, from context, the husband of Inquisitor Sever, and Brayderal probably the sister or half-sister of Brother Beleague. She had been hiding her physical differences, for example by taking care to stand in the way humans stood. Brayderal did not dare run away as she knew that Badalle had made sure that she was watched by the others and was desperately hoping her kin would arrive soon. She dared not raise her own powerful 'Holy Voice', for the first time ever, in case it upset a scheme of the Forkrul Assail pursuing them. They were finally attacked by them as they arrived at the Crystal City and Brayderal was swept along with the tides of fleeing children, unable to do anything as she found herself far more weakened than she had anticipated. Badalle defeated the pursuers and Braydalle vanished into the city. Badalle initially intended killing the girl and had a poem for Bryderal prepared however, Bryderal managed to keep out of sigh, grieving for the loss of her kin and tormented by the thought that it was her fault, that she had led the other Forkrul Assail to their deaths. Badalle changed her mind about killing and instead banished Brayderal.
