As such, Akatsuki, despite initially having a minor role during Part I, have become the primary antagonists in Part II of Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, and are once more the antagonists of Shishido Gaiden. Their current base of operations is in Otogakure, located inside the Land of Sound.

When one team finds a tailed beast and has to begin the job of sealing the beast, they have hidden hideouts with many traps ready, to begin the sealing with the organization's leader's astral projection for a three-day long jutsu.
