Ananda Somatilake graduated from the Sri Lanka National Institute of Fine Arts Majoring in painting in 1965. Later he joined the academic staff of the Institute of Aesthetic Studies at the University of Kelaniya (presently University of the Visual and Performs Arts). He has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions. He was employed as a curriculum development officer in the Ministry of Education at the Republic of Seychelles. He actively involved in develop Seychelles art and craft education also he written several support books for art education.
