- Jesse Collins was the son of Judd Collins, a wealthy mine owner in Pennsylvania. In the 1920s, he was friends with the immortal, Duncan MacLeod. Jesse was supposed to be at college at Princeton, studying Engineering, but he was sympathetic to the workers in the mines. At a miners meeting, Jesse and Duncan arrived in order to talk to the workers. Jesse feared that his father would send in strike breakers and militia and there could be a bloodbath. Jesse tried to talk to his father, but the man was displeased with him, and wanted him to go back to school.

Eventually, the troubles at the mine came to a head and Judd confronted stiking miners, when they rushed him, the strike breakers opened fire, killing several men, including Jesse Collins.
