Vanda Godsell (17th November 1922 - 11th April 1990) appeared in Coronation Street in January 1961 as Edwin Mason's "lady friend" Hilda Wardle. Although her father was a Naval Officer and her mother was an author, her aunt, Naomi Jacob, was an actress. Born in Bristol, she first acted for Repertoire in her home city at the age of fourteen. From her uncredited debut in the 1953 film Flannelfoot she appeared in many movies such as A Shot in the Dark, This Sporting Life and Hell is a City while on television she took part in many series from the 1950s onwards including Armchair Theatre, No Hiding Place, Dixon of Dock Green, The Saint, Dr Finlay's Casebook, Never Mind the Quality Feel the Width, Mother Makes Five, Minder and regular roles in the 1960s BBC soap The Newcomers and the comedy I Di
