Synopsis
  • Clark Kent and Lois Lane are called to the estate of John Kiely, a rich and charitable man who is now on his death bed, he and Clark had been very close for years. Left in private with Kiely, Kiely reveals that he's a huge Superman fan, and that he'd been researching the Man of Steel for years, and suspects that Clark is truly Superman. John asks Kent, as his dying wish, to know if his theory is true or not. Clark reveals himself to be Superman, and Kiely seemingly dies. After the press leaves, Kiely revives, having drugged himself to a near death state As it turns out, he's secretly been running the Anti-Superman Gang, and now that he had learned the Man of Steel's true identity, they begin to plot a way to elimination Superman once and for all. Staging a mine collapse to attract the press, Kiely and his gang manage to trap Clark in the cave with a giant chunk of Kryptonite. His attempt to call his Superman robots to his rescue fails because the Anti-Superman Gang has set up jammers to prevent the robots from coming to his aid. Seeing Superman's plight through a video monitor, a number of men from the bottle city of Kandor go out to Superman's rescue as the Superman Emergency Squad. They seek out Supergirl and ask for her aid in rescuing Superman. With a bunch of lead paint, they smash into the cavern and douse the Kryptonite with it before it can effect either of them. They then set up a trap to capture the Anti-Superman Gang. When the gang opens the cavern to see if Kent is dead, they are shocked to find that he is not. One of the gang members blurts out the possible side effect of the near-death drug, while pulling the bottle out to show all. Clark uses his x-ray vision to make the bottles contents spray out and douse everyone. He then instructs Supergirl to change into Linda Lee and appear before the gang members and change into Supergirl. While this is happening he also instructs the Superman Emergency Squad to appear as well, leaving the crooks to believe that they are hallucinating. When the crooks all pass out, Supergirl changes back into Linda Lee and Clark into Superman. When they revive, all they see is a little girl and are busted by Superman, who tells them that Clark Kent "told" him about their plot.
  • While spending time with the other girls in the orphanage in her civilian guise of Linda Lee, Supergirl becomes upset that she doesn't have any female friends whom she can confide in. Switching to her Supergirl identity when she receives a call, she meets Saturn Girl of the Legion of Super-Heroes, along with two other newer Legion members, Phantom Girl and Triplicate Girl who have come to the 20th Century to cheer Supergirl up. They take her back to the 30th Century and invite her to join the Legion, and introduce her to the other new members: Shrinking Violet, Sun Boy, Bouncing Boy, and Brainiac 5 -- The latter being the descendant of Superman's old foe Brainiac. After partaking in the Legion of Super-Heroe's parade, Supergirl prepares to return to her own time, when Brainiac 5 asks her to stay and be his girlfriend. Supergirl politely declines because she has to return to her own time. Back in the 20th century, Supergirl is contacted by Lori Lemaris and Jarro to test out a new force field they hope will protect Supergirl from harmful Kryptonite rays. The device works, however when Supergirl tries to throw the Kryptonite into space she scares off Krypto. burying the Kryptonite on a distant planet and returning home, Supergirl's force field device is damaged by a meteor and Lori is unable to repair it. When Supergirl returns to the orphanage as Linda Lee, the girls tease her when she is forced to lie to them and tell them she has no boyfriend, when in reality she has two admirers in both Brainiac 5, and Jarro.
