The Standard Galactic Credit is a form of currency used throughout the galaxy. It is an alternative to the Imperial Credit and the New Republic Credit and widely used, even in the Empire and New Republic. After the fall of the Empire, the Imperial credit lost most of its value - thus the Standard Galactic Credit was created as the New Republic began issuing its own currency, which did not catch on as well as the Republic Treasury hoped. Most transactions until 14 ABY were done with Standard Galactic Credit chips. After the Imperial Blitzkrieg, the value of the Imperial Credit shot up drastically, and thus began to replace the Standard Galactic Credit in most corners of the galaxy.
