The area around the entrance to realm of Chaos is commonly known as the Chaos Wastes. Because the wastes are so close to the realm of Chaos, the laws that govern Order are fluid. Time and space are matters of perception, and the weather can change instantly. The wastes are full of monsters. The humans that live in the wastes are savages when compared to humans from the Old World. They tend to live in tribes that move from area to area. Each tribe has its own beliefs and customs, but all worship the four great gods of Chaos in some form. Life is hard in the wastes where surviving a day is a victory. The tribes are always fighting each other and the monsters in the wastes, making them natural born fighters. They are tall and heavily built, often dressed in furs and scraps of armor. Their bod

  • The Warriors of Chaos,[1a] also known as the Hordes of Chaos, the Followers of Chaos,[1e] Chaos Undivided, the Northern Barbarians or simply just Northmen,[3b] are the names given to a race of savage, warlike tribes of Human Barbarians that occupy the harsh and unforgiving lands of the uppermost North, known in the lands of the Old World as the dreaded Northern Waste.[1h][6b] To all those that faced them, the northern barbarians are considered by all to be the enemies of all the world, whose unwavering worship to an uncaring and sadistic pantheon of ancient and evil Gods has given them a single driving motive to usher in the inevitable downfall of all mortal-kind into their hellish enslavement.[6a]

  • The Warriors of Chaos,[1a] also known as the Hordes of Chaos, the Followers of Chaos,[1e] Chaos Undivided, the Northern Barbarians or simply just Northmen,[3b] are the names given to a race of savage, warlike tribes of Human Barbarians that occupy the harsh and unforgiving lands of the uppermost North, known in the lands of the Old World as the dreaded Northern Waste.[1h][6b] To all those that faced them, the northern barbarians are considered by all to be the enemies of all the world, whose unwavering worship to an uncaring and sadistic pantheon of ancient and evil Gods has given them a single driving motive to usher in the inevitable downfall of all mortal-kind into their hellish enslavement.[6a] Out of all the many threats that the Old World must face, none strikes such fear and misery into the hearts of Men like the Followers of Chaos. Slaves to darkness all, they have given themselves wholly to the Ruinous Powers, some willingly, others because they felt they had no other choice.[7a] Chaos itself is a corrupting influence upon the world, like a dark, malign cancer that eats at the minds of all those that live within the World. No single race, no matter how noble or powerful, will ever be safe from their barbaric invasions, nor are they safe from the seductive whispers of the Dark Gods. However, out of all the mortal races that Chaos has corrupted over the centuries, perhaps the greatest and most numerous of their followers are those of Mankind.[6a] The race of Mankind is a paradox upon the World, for although they are considered the world's most greatest defenders against the darkness that is Chaos, they are nevertheless also one of Chaos greatest and most numerous servants. The corruption of Chaos runs deep within the blood of Men, and whose influence upon Human history has literally shaped the founding of entire Nations. From the Northern Waste, armies of the Dark Gods would attack the southern lands time and again, slaughtering without reason, pillaging that which is not nailed down, and just simply wrecking wanton destruction to the nations of the Old World. No matter how many of these marauders are killed, no matter how many invasions are pushed back and enemy armies annihilated, the Hordes of Chaos can never truly be defeated, and after a few years of relative peace, they shall once more come down south and begin the vicious cycle once again. So long as there is still Chaos within this world, they will also be those evil and greedy men that are wholly willing to serve them.

The tribes are always fighting each other and the monsters in the wastes, making them natural born fighters. They are tall and heavily built, often dressed in furs and scraps of armor. Their bodies are covered in symbols and runes, which they believe will protect them. Like all from the chaos wastes, they will likely have some form of mutation, but they see this as proof that the gods favor them. The men from the north are great sailors, and during peace times they will trade with, and fight for other races. Most of the time they will be raiding the other races for plunder, slaves, or glory. Warriors of Chaos armies tend to be close-combat oriented, with few to no ranged capabilities, other than magic. Their primary tactic is simply to engage the enemy in close combat. When playing against a chaos army it is best to avoid contact via close-combat, and instead stay at a distance and utilize a gun line or magic. Almost all warriors may take a "Mark", a mark is a symbol that represents the one of the four gods of chaos that has granted favor upon the bearer. A marked warrior gains an ability that is oriented with the mark of their God. When roused for a battle, they become an roaring, unstoppable force. Arrows and bolts patter from their hell-forged armours like hailstones upon a glacier as they stride into the enemy ranks. The thrusts of spear and halberd are deflected contemptuously, and the lifeblood of their foes spatters their armour as their jagged blade rises and falls. There are those amongst the ranks of the Chaos Warriors who bear the favour of the Dark Gods more so than their fellows. Known amongst their kind as Chosen, they possess supernatural abilities to aid them in their constant war against order and sanity, and are dreaded across the Old World and beyond. The men of the north are natural fighters, born into hardship and brought up in a world where only the strong prosper. Every man is expected to be a tough and capable warrior, independent and fierce. Chaos Marauders fight with heavy axe, blade or flail, and their favourite tactic is to charge in great howling mobs towards the foe. The Warhounds of Chaos are bloodthirsty and brutish beasts, tireless hunters built of little more than muscle and fang. On the field of battle the Warriors of Chaos release these feral beasts to intercept the forward elements of the enemy army. Packs of Chaos Warhounds will hunt down and pounce upon enemy skirmishers and scouts, bearing them to the ground and ripping them to pieces in their desperate desire to kill. The Hellcannon, part daemon, part war-machine is a massive construct of iron and brass that growls and shakes with daemonic sentience. In battle these arcane engines heave crackling blasts of raw energy that soar through the air into their targets, transmuting anything they touch into freakish new forms and sending the survivors insane with fear. Of all the mortal warriors across the civilisations of the world, the Lords of Chaos are feared most of all, for they are true gods amongst men. Clad in baroque armour they tower above even other Champions of Chaos, and those brave enough to stand against them are but feeble children by comparison. A Chaos Lord's indomitable will is forged in the fires of war, his skills are tempered in the crucible of battle, and his blade is eternally quenched in blood.
