A Craetthing or Karturthing (lit."Wagon-Thing") was a War-council of the old Northmen.In Dale the term Karturthing came to designate the high council of the City.The Craethings (Rh. "War Councilors") actually served as territorial representatives as well, for the clan holdings, or "Fyrgas," long ago became simple administrative districts with thoroughly mixed populations. Certain families were traditionally chosen to have a seat on the "Craetching". (The warriors—both men and women—who were allowed to vote each midwinter respected tradition. The council met monthly on the night of no moon, when a little "doom" was in the air. In times of war, sessions were held when they were needed.
