The Atari video game burial of 1983 was an infamous event in video gaming history, in which Atari dumped thousands of video game cartridges, allegedly including a large number of copies of its video game adaptation E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600, into a New Mexico landfill. It was one of the consequences of the North American video game crash of 1983.
