Jeff Palms has been cursed with luck, at least that's the way he puts it. Not so lucky, however, are the poor saps that get caught up in disasters that surround him. The worst hurricane to hit the Carolina's in 15 years occurred while he was in Recruit Training at Camp Geiger. Two of his fellow recruits were killed during the storm. While attending SOI East, a hand grenade malfunction killed one of his instructors and wounded two of his classmates. The instructor was talking to Palms when the grenade detonated, yet Palms only received slight cuts and bruises.

The instructor was talking to Palms when the grenade detonated, yet Palms only received slight cuts and bruises. During Arcturan Freedom, Palms was wounded during a small skirmish. He was the only man in his squad wounded, and was quickly air lifted back to camp. The rest of his Fire Team was killed when their drop ship crashed on their return home. Had he not been wounded, Palms would have been on that flight as well. Since his assignment to 1st Platoon, the strange occurrences have seemed to drop in severity if not frequency. His buddies may have taken to calling Palms "Lucky", but he will be the first to tell you that having what some people call good luck can be worse than having no luck at all
