He played junior and senior hockey in Northern Ontario with the Porcupine Combines and the Kirkland Lake Blue Devils and junior for the Oshawa Generals. He also spent the 1938-39 season with the Earls Court Rangers in Great Britain. Lamoureux was named a QSHL First team All-Star in 1940 with the Cornwall Flyers and then played for the senior Hamilton Dofascos in 1940-41. The Montreal Canadiens called him up for the 1941–42 season. He won two Stanley Cups with Montreal in 1944 and 1946. He left the Canadiens after the 1946-47 season. The Leo P. Lamoureux Memorial Trophy is named after him.
