The Mayor of Georgetown is the chief government executive of the city of Georgetown, Delmago Island. The Mayor is elected for a renewable four-year term. The office of Mayor has existed since 1825, when the settlement was first granted local government. While the Mayor and the local council's authority extends only to the municipal limits, the Mayor is considered a powerful figure in the state and regularly meets with the Chief Minister and the Governor.
