  • During his [[Knuckles' World Tour of Mobius|journey back to the Floating Island, Knuckles the Echidna found himself crossing the Great Mobian Prairie with his heavy chest of documents. Unfortunately, stepping into the Zone co-incided with a massive Apterix stampede, with Knuckles only just escaping under a boulder in time. Unfortunately, local wrangler Chito blamed the assault on Rooster's life on Knuckles, dragging him to Backwater on a pterodactyl. Knuckles eventually talked his way out of prison when the sheriff returned home and fired Deputy Krouch, instating Knuckles as the new second-in-command. Rooster returned to watch over his Apterix herd, but the villainous Boss Krouch still wished to kill him so that he could be the sole Apterix herder. Unfortunately, the lizard confessed to a hiding Knuckles his plans and beat a hasty retreat. Cornered, his final plan was to use a vial containing predator scent to scare the Apterix into stampeding through Rooster's camp, but accidentally spilled it on himself, causing his own untimely demise. After learning what had happened, Rooster awarded Knuckles with a pterodactyl to make his way back to the Floating Island.
